Boarhog's BBQ: Huntsville, AL

Day 23 was mostly a travel day so it was appropriate that my one stop for the day, Boarhog's Barbeque in Huntsville, Alabama is located in a gas station. Here I met Roger Owens and many of his family members. Roger opened his joint just this past May after finally deciding to give into his barbecue calling.

I say calling, because not only can this man 'cue, but he can plain cook. And he and his family are creative with the homemade food they put out. I tried a smorgasbord of cherry smoked barbecue-related items including an amazingly wonderful pulled pork biscuit, a monstrous plate of smothered potatoes (one half topped with chicken and the other with pulled pork), creamy chicken salad sandwich, tender wings, juicy pulled pork sandwich... and all the sides were outstanding (hushpuppies, potato salad, two types of cole slaw - vinegar and mayo - hash brown casserole and baked beans). That's a smorgasbord right?

I have enjoyed going to all these different barbecue joints, but these folks that are just starting out, they need all the support they can get. I'm not saying they're the best, but I'm not saying they're not! What I am saying is if you ever decide to do a small Chasing BBQ
tour, this place should be on your list.

A big thank you to Roger, Becky, Denise, Kari-Jo, Jo and Dan for welcoming me so warmly and for your amazing generosity. After I left Boarshog, I made it to the Atlanta area safely and my bros and I dived into all the leftovers - lucky us! #chasingbbq
