Recipe: Apple Pie
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 3 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp. Baking Spice
- 8 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced
- 2 (9-inch) pie crust dough pieces, homemade or store-bought
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Melt butter in a saucepan. Stir in flour to form a paste. Add water, white sugar, brown sugar, and Baking Spice; bring to a boil then reduce heat and let simmer.
Meanwhile, place one of the pie dough pieces in the bottom and up the sides of a pie pan. Fill with apples to make a mound. Using the second pie dough piece, cover apples with a lattice top, or use a whole dough piece with several wide slits cut into it. You want holes in the top crust to be big enough to pour the butter-sugar liquid into the apple filling. Pinch the top and bottom crusts together to seal.
Gently pour butter-sugar liquid into the apple filling and over the crust; pour slowly so that it does not run off. Bake for 15 min. Reduce temperature to 350 degrees and continue baking for 35 to 45 min. until apples are soft.
Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
