Recipe: Cherry Mountain Moonshine
Featuring our Vanilla Bean Sugar and cherry extract, this is a flavorful front porch sipper named after a North Carolina mountain famous for its moonshine history.
*Moonshine is widely available in liquor stores, but vodka or white whiskey will work as a substitute. For a Chocolate Cherry Moonshine, substitute Vanilla Bean Sugar with our Black Onyx Chocolate Sugar. Amaretto or almond extracts can be used in place of cherry extract, and fresh cherries can be used in place of frozen.
Whisk juice and sugar together in a small saucepan. Bring mixture to a boil and let it simmer for about 5 min. Remove from heat, stir in extract and allow mixture to cool. Strain into a 2-cup sealable jar and add moonshine and cherries. Refrigerate for 24 hours before enjoying; it gets better after a couple of weeks.
Pour over ice to serve. Garnish each glass with 1 or 2 of the cherries, for the look and for a little cherry pickin’ through the ice at the end.
