Fennel Seeds, Ground

Fennel seed is native to the Mediterranean and is now grown in many parts of the world including China and India. Fennel seeds are sometimes called sweet cumin or large cumin because of their resemblance to cumin seed. The flavor of fennel is slightly sweet and has a definite licorice-like taste.

It is said that flies dislike fennel and ground fennel has been used to keep flies away in kennels and stables.

Fennel is used in almost every culture; the Italians use it on pork roast and in sauces, the French on fish, the Germans in sauerkraut, the Greeks in breads, the Chinese on poultry and the people of India not only chew fennel as a breath freshener, but use it as an important ingredient in many curries. Use it in sausage making, soups, cakes and cookies.

The amount of product in the jar you receive is considered the net weight. We have provided that net weight after the jar size, ex: Small glass jar (net 1.25oz). To give you a better understanding of the jar size, see the fluid ounce measurements below.
  • The small glass bottles hold 2 fluid ounces. The plastic lids have a flip top with a small pour spout.
  • Medium glass bottles hold 4 fluid ounces. The plastic lids have a split flip top. One side has a larger opening and the other side is a shaker.
  • Large glass bottles hold 12 fluid ounces. The plastic lids have a split flip top. On side has a larger opening and the other side is a shaker.
