Fenugreek Seeds, Ground

Fenugreek is native to South Asia and Southeastern Europe but is now widely cultivated elsewhere, including North and East Africa, China, Greece and Ukraine. Fenugreek is a lesser known spice from the pea family and has many culinary uses.

Fenugreek was considered a cure for baldness in ancient times and is still used in hair tonics today.

Ground fenugreek has a dull, yellow color and a powdery texture that tends to clump up, so be sure to stir it thoroughly. The flavor of fenugreek is sweet yet bitter with a hint of maple. Ground fenugreek is primarily used in curry powders and breads, but also can be experimented with on vegetables, in chutneys and pot roasts.

“I just made your Jamaican Jerk marinade for pork kebobs that I grilled. It was outstanding. I usually stick to the recipe for the first time before I later adapt it to my own tastes. This time, I am not changing the recipe one bit. It's perfect as it is. Thanks.”
