Camping Food Hacks

If you love to camp, you know that cooking can be a challenge when you have limited space and resources. But with Savory Spice's hundreds of spice options, you can make almost anything taste good while camping.

 Breakfast

When you want to wake up and hit the trails right away, breakfast can often get neglected. So what is a delicious option you can whip up quickly? If you have a camping stove or water boiler, oatmeal and instant coffee is an easy option. It may not sound very exciting, but hold that thought.

Oatmeal can easily be made with hot water, dehydrated fruit, and spices. Georgia Peach Spice kicks it up a notch with it's slight tang, pairs well with every fruit, and isn’t overly sweet. To go with your oatmeal, make some instant coffee and add Vanilla Bean Sugar. This sugar is so delicious, you won’t even know you’re drinking instant coffee. Just like that, you have a great, warm breakfast that gives you fuel to take on the day. If you want different spice options for oatmeal or instant coffee, check out our cinnamon and other baking spices.

Snack

Once you hit the trails, you’re going to get hungry at some point, so here's a snack hack: packaged tuna (look for it in a pouch not a can). Packaged tuna also keeps well, even in the most extreme weather conditions. Paired with some crackers and spices, this simple snack will hit the spot.

A quick and easy tuna topper is Dill Dip - no it's not just for dip. This snack is great because it won’t take up a lot of room in your pack, but it is filling and satisfying.

Quick Tip: Condense spices you want to bring so you aren’t carrying jars with you. Putting just the amount of spices you need in small zip top bags before will save room in your car and in your pack.

The perfect spices, for the perfect snack.

Lunch

If you want a yummy and hearty lunch, make a pizza! You can bake your pizza on a fire in foil, in a cast iron skillet, or in a dutch oven. Premade pizza dough that doesn’t require refrigeration makes this lunch super easy. Just top with your favorite sauce, cheese, and veggies. Bell pepper and onion do not require refrigeration which means cheese is the only thing you'll need to keep in a cooler. Top my pizza off with Roasted Granulated Garlic or Pizza & Pizza & Pasta Sprinkle if you prefer an herbaceous flavor.

If you’re looking for an even quicker lunch, canned veggies and soups are a lifesaver when you’re camping. Canned goods are super easy to heat up over a camping stove and have minimal clean up. With the help of spices, canned goods transform into a delicious lunch. Add Citrus Pepper Seasoning to canned veggies to upgrade the flavor - it's especially good on green beans and corn.

An easy and flavorful lunch.

Dinner

There are many options for campfire dinners. If you're planning to enjoy a catch-of-the-day, make sure to pack some Cherry Creek Seafood Seasoning (oh, remember that tuna snack...if you want to minimize your spices, this one can pull double duty for a fresh trout dinner and prepackaged tuna). But if you don't plan on fishing (or at least want a back-up) cook up some foil packets. If you don't already know, you can cook them up with a variety of meats and veggies,  barbecue sauce and seasonings.

Remember those onions and bell peppers? Use those with mushrooms, potatoes, and ground beef. Slather with Sweet Jerk Barbecue Sauce and a touch of TSM Kansas City BBQ Rub or Worcestershire Sauce and Kansas City Stip Steak Seasoning. Then put them on the fire for about 15 minutes and wait for the delicious results. If you're going vegetarian, you really don't have to wait too long but make sure your meat is cooked appropriately depending on what protein you're using. After a long day of being outside, these really hit the spot.

The hobo making process.

For an even easier dinner, pasta and Classic Marinara Sauce Spice ‘n Easy is about as simple as it gets. All you have to do is boil water for pasta and mix up the Classic Marinara Sauce Meal Starter Spice Mix with a can of tomatoes - or if you don't want to carry a can around, in a pinch you could use Tomato Powder and water, then add some dehydrated veggies.

Whether you’re camping for one night or one month, spices can make cooking at your campsite and snacking on the go an effortless and tasty experience.
