Bet the House: Denton, TX

BONUS STOP! Sometimes when a plan doesn't come together better things happen. And that's what happened to my plan today.

My second spot was cool and all, but admittedly it wasn't the barbecue find that I was hoping it would be (a fun place, just not a bbq joint). I started searching for another place in the Dallas area and just couldn't find one that felt like it was worth going out of my way for so I packed up my computer, put in directions for the planned third stop of the day, backed out of my space and started to drive away. Right at that very moment, Lance Kirkpatrick, the great pitmaster of Stiles Switch in Austin and new friend, sent me a message saying there was a place in Denton called Bet The House BBQ that I should check out if I had the time. Turned out it was 3, count 'em, 1,2, 3 minutes away from where I was. I punched it in and off I went.

When I entered the door of this somehow cool place in the middle of a strip mall, I was greeted by the most friendly, and I have to say, good looking group of people...young-ish people! But there was nothing young about their barbecue.

Turns out there are three pitmasters there: Cody, Shawn and Jess. Jess was working the pits and putting out some amazing 'cue. The sides weren't too shabby either, which is why I asked for the recipe for her cumin spiced potato salad. She didn't hand it over easily, nor completely, but with the with info I did get from her I am pretty sure that I can come close to recreating it and sharing it with y'all!

Note: The recipe is now up for Savory's take on Cumin Spiced Potato Salad.

I really did like every smoky piece of goodness on the plate and all the made-in-house sides...and, of course, I couldn't turn down the bonus fresh out of the oven snickerdoodle cookie. But the stars were the brisket, turkey, ribs and black beans.

Those who know me personally know I'm a bit of a betting man (poker) and I'm telling you this....I'm all-in on Bet the House BBQ in Denton, Texas. GO. I doubt you'll be disappointed and I know from experience that you'll be greeted by a great gang of people. #‎chasingbbq
