Roegels BBQ: Houston, TX

BONUS STOP! Thanks to Randall and Michelle of Savory Spice Shop - Rice Village for the tip and for developing a business relationship with Russell of Roegels Barbecue Co.
Russell says he's kind of new to Central Texas barbecue, but not new to barbecue. Apparently he's a quick learner, because his joint puts out some very good 'cue. Yes, he's a Savory customer so you might think I'm a bit biased, but try his food, chat him up and you'll see that he's on point, loves talking 'cue and continues to work hard at his craft. The more I talked with these pitmasters, the more I realize how much of an art form really great barbecue is. He's also a generous guy who seems ever ready to lend a hand. I like that and think it speaks volumes.
Be on the look out for a chocolate pudding he's working on, one that will have a little Savory zing. It might be a while because it won't go on the menu until he has it right where he wants it. His bourbon banana pudding took 2 years to get right. Take your time, Russell, ‘cause if the chocolate can match the banana it'll be a real winner. Obviously I liked the pudding...in addition, my favorites were the juicy turkey and the bacon & onion green beans. #chasingbbq
