If you were to travel around our shop (or website) and explore all of our gluten-free spices and seasonings, you’d be in for a long journey. Of our over 400 products, 99% of them are gluten-free. In fact, there are so many gluten-free products that it’s easier just to point out the few items that do contain gluten than to list all the ones that don’t.
Which spice products contain gluten?
The following Savory Spice products DO contain gluten, so you’ll want to AVOID these for a gluten-free diet:
- Veal Demi Glaze: This classic French demi glaze made with veal and beef stock is the only one of our eight demi glazes and stock concentrates that contains gluten. The rest—including seafood, duck, lamb, turkey, chicken, and vegetable—are gluten-free.
- Wasabi Garnishing Sauce: Many pre-packaged condiments contain gluten. The bottled wasabi sauce we carry is one of them.
That’s it! Those are the current products we carry that contain gluten. While we are not a certified gluten-free facility, the products that contain gluten come into our facility pre-packaged and leave the same way, never being exposed to the rest of our products. The rest of our spices and handcrafted seasonings are gluten-free, including our hot sauces and extracts.
What to do with all those gluten-free spices?
Now that you know what to avoid if you’re on a gluten-free diet, it can be overwhelming to decide which spices you want to take home and cook with. Luckily, we have a collection of nearly 400 gluten-free recipes to browse through for inspiration. Still overwhelmed? I don’t blame you. That’s why I’ve picked out some of my favorite gluten-free recipes that have come through our Savory Spice Test Kitchen. I sorted them into menus, so you can impress your gluten-free friends and family members with a complete, well-seasoned, gluten-free meal. Don’t worry, I won’t tell them the menu was my idea!
Mexican fare is one of the easiest to adapt for a gluten-free diet. Corn tortillas, corn chips, fresh salsa, citrus, herbs, rice, beans, chiles…lots of hearty and flavorful ingredients fit the bill. This Mexican menu features several make ahead-recipes and an easy, slow cooker pork.
- Hibiscus Tea (or Agua de Jamaica)
- Buffalo Style Mexican Street Corn
- Able’s Peppercorn Puerco Pebil
- Quick Pickled Onions
The night before the meal, mix up the pepper and annatto pork marinade, make the pickled onions, then steep and chill the sweet-tart tea. The morning of your dinner party, get the slow cooked pork going. Prep the grilled corn, finger-food appetizer just before you’re ready to serve the meal. It’s covered with a messy but delicious buffalo and blue cheese sauce, so have some extra napkins handy. The pickled onions make this meal in my opinion; they provide the perfect tangy, fresh crunch to the rich and flavorful pulled pork.
It’s harder for me to find gluten-free inspiration in a brunch menu. My mind always jumps to the bread basket or baked treats: croissants, biscuits, cinnamon rolls, and buttery quiche crust. The following menu has the best of what I imagine a brunch to be (including a Bloody Mary!) yet there’s not a speck of gluten in sight.
The lemon pepper and veggie quiches might be crust-free but are buttery and rich. Tip the quiches out of the ramekins you bake them in, set them on a plate with fresh greens, then add addictively delicious and crispy skillet potatoes for a beautiful meal. Finish with the not-to-sweet polenta cake topped with citrus syrup. Then have a second Bloody Mary and take a weekend nap.
This exotic yet approachable menu could work to “spice up” a simple weeknight dinner or for a backyard party to welcome the warm weather.

You can make the meal easier with a little advance prep work. Prepare both the coconut ice cream and the coconut-lime simple syrup (for the Sake Sparkler) a day ahead. That way, your cocktail will come together quickly when your guests arrive, and you won’t stress about how long the ice cream needs to freeze before you can serve it. Additionally, the curry dip tastes best after it sits overnight in the fridge so the flavors can meld. Serve the curry dip on a platter with a variety of raw or roasted veggies so your guests can snack while you grill the the beef and prep the cauliflower. You can finish the beef in its sauce at the same time you're sauteeing the grated cauliflower that will serve as a faux rice bed for the Mongolian beef.
Grilling is another category that is great for gluten-free menu planning. From meat to fish to fruit to veg, almost anything can be grilled. And with a killer marinade, sauce, or topping, you have a super flavorful dish in as long as it takes to finish grilling. This is the perfect menu for a backyard party, where you have time to stand over the grill and serve the meal in stages.
- Grilled Watermelon “Caprese” with Pomegranate Molasses Vinaigrette
- Herbed Chicken Skewers with Kale Caper Sauce and Harissa Yogurt Sauce
- Grilled Spiced Sugar Bananas
The only advance planning you need for this menu is the time to marinate the chicken—overnight is best, but an hour or two will do. For this meal, I’d light up the grill and get all my pieces (including sauces and toppings) prepped and ready to go. Then, one at a time, grill and serve each course: watermelon, chicken skewers with sauces, and spiced bananas. Better yet, assign each of your friends a course so everyone takes turns at the grill.
