Holiday Party Menu Planning

This time of year it seems that just about any gathering simply has to revolve around food.

This time of year, there’s always something going on; and it seems that just about any gathering simply has to revolve around food. We have put together a few menu ideas to make any event or party a little more delicious—and maybe, just maybe, a little easier to plan!

Holiday Open House
The best thing about an open house is that you can do most of the planning and cooking ahead of time. The selections here cover a wide range: sweet, savory, fresh, and hot from the oven. Most of them can easily be made ahead so they are perfect for a party. Simply set out an array of finger food and treats to nibble on, so guests can graze all day (or night) long. Top it off with simmering cider and festive mulled wine to really get in the holiday spirit.

Holiday Cocktail Party
If you’re hosting a more formal cocktail party, keep the food classic and have fun with the drinks. Curate an impressive a cheese plate with accompaniments (spiced nuts, gougeres, chutney, and something pickled). Have a couple of hearty make-ahead nibbles ready, like meatballs and bacon-wrapped dates. Top off the menu with a few ‘ready-to-mix’ crowd pleasing drinks and let your inner mixologist shine with a few festive cocktails (or mocktails).

Holiday Brunch
Whether you are welcoming immediate family, extended family, or friends who are like family into your home for a holiday stay, you’ll need to feed them. These brunch ideas are perfect for those days when there are a few extra people around. Many of these are make-ahead recipes and most make great leftovers, so you’ll have plenty to satisfy overnight guests for multiple meals.
