Peruvian Chile Lime Seasoning is one of our all-time customer favorites. But I have to admit - I had not used it until recently. Since so many of our customers rave about this seasoning, I decided to conduct some cooking experiments to see what the hype was all about. The results I found were striking!
So what is Peruvian Chile Lime Seasoning?
Peruvian Chile Lime is a South American inspired seasoning that features the Peruvian chile, Aji Amarillo.
The fruity flavor of this medium spicy chile is enhanced by the subtle tartness of the powdered makrut lime leaves. To complete this zesty seasoning we add a generous amount of amount of cumin and salt, annatto, turmeric, chiles, paprika, Mexican oregano, and cilantro.
Makrut Lime Leaves caught my eye when I first read the ingredients because for me, citrusy seasonings are some of the best. Aji Amarillo Chiles, on the other hand, made me a bit nervous. I enjoy some spicy foods, but I usually don’t cook with anything other than Taco Seasoning or Mild Chili Powder. I’m not super adventurous with chiles, it just really isn’t my thing. But whether chiles are or aren’t your thing, you will love Peruvian Chile Lime, trust me. This seasoning surprised me and after ample experimentation, I think I may have a slight addiction now. So what did I make?
I wasn’t quite sure where to start with this seasoning, so I thought simple would be best. What better starting point than some Super Easy Savory Dip? All you have to do is mix one to three tablespoons of Peruvian Chile Lime with a cup of sour cream or yogurt. It doesn't get any easier than that!
The Results: I was impressed with the flavor of the dip. I used two tablespoons of Peruvian Chile Lime and one cup of sour cream. The fruity and sweet-herbed components of this seasoning really came out in this dip. I recommend dipping fresh veggies or chips for an effortless mid-day snack or gathering.
Eggs and Avocado
For my next Peruvian culinary adventure, I stuck to keeping it simple. I sprinkled it over my breakfast of eggs and avocado slices. And boom, amazing!
The Results: This was honestly life changing. Not only did it amp up my eggs, but it led me to my new favorite food combo: avocado with Peruvian Chile Lime. I am a big fan of avocados as a snack or an addition to any meal. Avocado with Peruvian Chile Lime sprinkled on top is something I could eat every day. This zesty seasoning compliments avocado amazingly. I will be making guacamole with it ASAP!
As a lover of citrus and seafood, I often bake or grill shrimp with veggies using Citrus Pepper Seasoning or Pyramid Peak Lemon Pepper. These go-tos never fail me. Well, it turns out I have a new go-to.
The Results: The citrusy notes make Peruvian Chile Lime excellent on shrimp and veggies. The aji amarillo chile in this seasoning provides the shrimp with the perfect amount of heat. To me, this was a perfect dinner.
You can never go wrong with chicken, and I quickly realized you can never go wrong with Peruvian Chile Lime Seasoning! Simply toss chicken and veggies in olive oil, sprinkle this seasoning generously, and bake or grill. It’s really that easy.
The Results: I was right about this combo, you can’t go wrong with it! This is a simple way to create a delicious chicken dish that everyone will love. I recommend serving it with tortillas for a fajita style meal.
There was no way I was going to complete my experiment without making pasta. Anyone who knows me knows that pasta is a passion of mine. So, I decided to make a Peruvian alfredo pasta. I started off by boiling pasta and sauteing red bell peppers, mushrooms, and kale with olive oil and a sprinkle of Peruvian Chile Lime. As the veggies and pasta approached completion, I made a standard alfredo sauce then added two tablespoons of Peruvian Chile Lime and a tablespoon of fresh lime juice.
The Results: I will definitely be making this again. Peruvian Chile Lime took alfredo sauce to a whole new level. The tangy flavor of this pasta was to die for. I’m not sure I can make plain alfredo sauce again!
In addition to pasta, I also love dessert. Who doesn’t? With the fruity flavor in Peruvian Chile Lime, I thought creating a dessert would be a good idea. So, I got a bowl of vanilla ice cream and topped it with fresh mango slices and a sprinkle of Peruvian Chile Lime.
The Results: This sweet treat hit the spot! The seasoning really brought the mango slices to life and were excellent with the cooling ice cream. This was a surprise hit, and one I’ll be eating again soon.
I loved everything I made with Peruvian Chile Lime Seasoning and my experimentation is just getting started. Here’s what I plan to make next:
Toasted pumpkin seeds
Cheesecake with a mango puree
