INGREDIENTS

NOTES

Moonshine is widely available in liquor stores, but vodka will work as a substitute.

DIRECTIONS

Combine everything but the moonshine in a small saucepan. Bring mixture to a boil and let it simmer for about 5 min. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Add moonshine and transfer to a 2-cup sealable jar. It’s ready to sip right away, but it gets even better if you let it sit in the fridge for at least 24 hours.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS

Pour small servings from the jar and sip. Best enjoyed sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch.

This recipe is great, we have enjoyed it with many spirits including whiskey. Sipping it sitting on a rocking chair is a great reccomendation.

Made a batch 12 X's the recipe. Followed it to a t and it was way too much cinnamon. All you could taste and smell was the cinnamon. Trying again. . Will update the results...
Test Kitchen Response: Thanks for your feedback on this recipe. We tested the recipe in our test kitchen as 1-cup, 2-cup and 4-cup recipes but haven't yet multiplied the recipe to make the type of large batches you tried. At the tested amounts, the cinnamon complements rather than overpowers. Our cinnamon is very fresh and therefore strong in flavor, which is why we love it. But when scaling up a recipe with fresh spices it's always a good idea to start with smaller amounts and add more to taste. In the case of this moonshine recipe, for a large 12x batch we'd suggest simmering just a few cinnamon sticks with the liquid mixture. And then for visual appeal, add a cinnamon stick to each final jar of the cooled liquid you end up preparing. We'd love to know your results of trying it again in such a large batch.
