Apple Chai Chutney Recipe
4 half pint (8 oz.) jars
- 1 tsp. vegetable oil
- 1 large red onion, halved and thinly sliced
- 8 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and cubed
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 Tbsp. * Sliced Crystallized Ginger
- 2 tsp. * Mt. Baker Chai Spice Seasoning
- 2 tsp. * Mango Powder
Add all Savory items to cart
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-low. Add onions and toss to coat with oil. Cook onions 20 to 30 min., stirring occasionally. Onions should be very soft and start to lightly brown. Add apples and cook until apples are soft but not mushy, about 10 min. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, combine brown sugar, vinegar and spices. Simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar has dissolved. Stir sugar mixture into onions and apples. Simmer over low heat for 45 min., stirring occasionally. Just before the last 10 min. is up, press on mixture with a potato masher several times to mash up some of the apples. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Enjoy within a few weeks.
Makes a unique burger topping. Delicious with a cheese plate or stirred into an Indian-inspired rice dish.
