Homemade vanilla extract is so easy and it makes a great gift for your favorite home cooks.

INGREDIENTS

Try infusing different vanilla beans into different alcohol bases. We like Tahitian vanilla beans with vodka, Madagascar vanilla beans with bourbon and Mexican vanilla beans with light or dark rum.



DIRECTIONS

Make a slit down the middle of each of the 5 vanilla beans, keeping the tip of each end intact. Place beans in a clean, sealable jar; cut them in half to fit in the jar if necessary. Pour 12 oz. of your alcohol of choice over the beans to cover. Seal and let sit for at least one month. Shake the jar every few days to get the vanilla bean seeds thoroughly mixed into the alcohol.
