Lightly chocolatey, sweet, and perfect for an afternoon treat!

Ingredients

Notes

This recipe was adapted from the original Rice Krispies Treats recipe. It is a sticky, dense mixture but if you looker "gooier" treats, try adding an additional 1 Tbsp. butter and 1 to 2 cups marshmallows to your inital mixture.

Directions

Combine butter, bag of marshmallows, and hot chocolate mix in a large microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stirring between, until marshmallows and butter are melted. Stir in cereal until mixture is well coated. Transfer to an 8x8 pan lined with parchment paper. Top with mini marshmallows and chocolate chips if using. Let set for at least 30 min. before slicing and serving.

This recipe needs to go back to the test kitchen. The amount of butter and marshmallows didn't seem enough and with the added hot chocolate mix, it was impossible to stir the melted marshmallow/hot chocolate mixture into the Rice Krispies. Since I generally use 1/4 cup butter with 10 1/2 ounces of marshmallows for regular RK treats, I melted an additional 2 tablespoons butter with another 2 cups of marshmallows to salvage this treat. By the time I had the additional melted marshmallows finished the rest of the batch was starting to set up so it was difficult to work with and impossible to get marshmallows and mini chocolate chips to stick as a garnish. Tastes good but definitely needs more tweaking to work.
Test Kitchen Response: Hi Leona! Thank you so much for your feedback. We retested this recipe as written and sampled it with our taste testers. This recipe is for a fairly dense and sticky mixture. While we didn't run into any problems, your suggestions sound great for a "gooier" treat! We'll make a note of these tips on the recipe. Thanks again!
