Recipe: Vadouvan Rice
Note from the author: "I love fried rice, rice balls, and simple seasonings that shine through. I needed a simple blend that wouldn't overpower the rice or other dishes to serve with it. I also wanted something simple so that one pot of rice could be used many ways, and this was the ticket!"
This will make a sticky rice. If you would like more of a "fluffy" rice, slightly heap the rice and reduce the water/stock by 3 Tbsp.
Combine all ingredients in a medium pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook for 5 min. Turn heat off and cover until rice is done. Alternatively, add all ingredients to a rice maker and cook using the normal settings for white rice.
This can be served as a side dish, but the rice can also be cooled and formed into rice balls for a unique side item in a lunch bag for work or school. It also works as a good base to which to add cabbage, carrots, onion, and other stir-fry vegetables.
