Freeze Dried Shallots Details

Garlic & Onion

Shallots are a member of the large onion family. Their taste is not as strong as white onion, but more of a cross between a sweet onion and mild garlic. Used extensively in French cooking, shallots have become a standard ingredient in many sauces because of their unique flavor. In the United States shallots have become equally popular and are used in soups, sauces, breads, meat fish, pork, and vegetable dishes.

Many historians surmise that De Soto brought shallots to the United States during his Louisiana explorations.

We find working with shallots to be a bit time consuming and tedious so we offer you a freeze dried, chopped product with all the flavor of fresh shallots. Reconstitute by covering with equal parts water to shallot or use as-is in longer cooking processes.

Spice Tips!

More Uses

Shallot Browned Butter Sweet Potatoes: Sautee 2 tsp. shallots in 2 Tbsp. salted butter until butter is lightly browned and pour on top of a baked sweet potato.

Caramelized Shallot Crostini: Sautee 1 Tbsp. shallots in 1 tbsp. water and 2 tsp. brown sugar. Add more water as needed to prevent burning and sticking. Top toasted baguette slices with goat cheese and caramelized shallots.
