Canning Workshop :: PicklesSunday, March 23, 2014
Whether you are new to canning or just need a refresher course, this class is a great starting point for most students. The focus of this workshop will be safety, equipment, and science as we discuss the boiling water bath technique. Once mastered, this method will enable you to safely and confidently can everything from jams to pickles to fruit! For this workshop, we'll be talking pickles ~ learn all about brine, sweet and dill recipes, and what ingredients would be needed for a successful product. Students will also participate in the hands-on part of the class when we put our knowledge to use and pickle a seasonal vegetable using freshly ground spices from Savory Spice Shop. All supply costs are included in the class fee of $25 and students will take home a jar made in the class. And there will be lots of home-canned goodies for students to sample as well! Registration is required in advance and spaces are limited. This workshop will be taught by Lisa Fulk, owner of Sunshine Canning and a certified Master Food Preserver. She knows that canning can be intimidating, but her classes do a good job of demystifying the process so that students get a full understanding of how to safely preserve food at home. Registration fee is paid at time of sign-up and class size is VERY small, so sign up quickly! Call in your credit card number to Savory Spice Shop at (727)290-9893 or use our PayPal account.
