You can also use harissa spices to make a homemade Yemeni seasoning known as "zhug" by adding a teaspoon each of ground cloves and ground cardamom to 3 tablespoons of harissa spice mix.

How to Use

For harissa paste from powder, mix equal parts harissa spice, oil, and hot water. Use prepared paste as a condiment on vegetables and kebabs. Try mixing harissa seasoning into stews or couscous.

Founders' Notes

I like it hot, but Janet doesn’t, and we’re probably not alone. At home, I mix equal parts harissa, oil, and water to make a quick sauce on the side.
