Why is this salt red and does it really taste different than other salts? The answer to the first question is legendary medicinal clay laden with healthful benefits, known as Red Alaea, which exists only in the islands. This clay occurs naturally in bright, beautiful veins between layers of lava rock and is can be difficult to find. After the finest clay is selected, it is baked for purity then added to sea salt using a proprietary technique that bonds the natural clay to the salt producing a gloriously beautiful Red Gold sea salt.

To answer the second question, yes, this salt does taste different than others. It has a delicious nutty flavor with a slightly sweet finish.
