Founders' Notes
This one has become a favorite with almost all our friends’ kids, which is always a good sign. Janet and I love it too. The magic comes from the balance of flavors: brown sugar for sweetness and tomato and pineapple powders that bring just enough tangy acidity to keep everything bright. As it cooks, the sauce thickens into that glossy, sticky glaze that makes Huli-Huli chicken so satisfying. When we want an easy dinner, we serve it over rice with a simple vegetable on the side and let those sweet island flavors do the rest.

About this Spice
DIRECTIONS:
Season chicken with salt. In a small pot, stir together Huli Huli Chicken mix, water, honey, and soy sauce. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 6 to 8 min. until mixture has thickened to a glossy glaze. Preheat grill, grill pan, or skillet over medium-high heat. Grill chicken for 5 to 7 min. per side until browned. Begin brushing with glaze and turning glazed-side down, brushing and turning every 30 to 60 seconds until sauce begins to caramelize and lightly char in spots and chicken is cooked through. Remove chicken from grill and brush with remaining glaze.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS:
Serve with rice, grilled pineapple, and edamame.
NOTES:
*For authentic flavor and color, find Hawaiian soy sauce, such as Aloha Shoyu.
Vegetarian/Vegan Instructions: Substitute agave for honey, and use shredded jackfruit in place of chicken thighs. Serve on a bun.
Chicken Wing Directions: Prepare Huli Huli sauce as package directs. Use sauce to glaze 2 lbs. of baked or fried chicken wings.
