About this Spice

This chorizo sausage spice blend is meant for homemade chorizo, or Mexican-style sausage. Mexican chorizo as we know it today was derived from the Spanish sausage of the same name.

Chimayo Chorizo Sausage Spice Q&A

What is the difference between Mexican chorizo and Spanish chorizo?

The big difference is that Spanish chorizo is a smoked, dry-cured, ready-to-eat sausage, whereas Mexican chorizo is a fresh sausage that needs to be fully cooked.

What spices are usually in chorizo?

Chorizo spices typically include a blend of salt, pepper, garlic, chiles, cumin and sugar. Our blend of chorizo spice mix also includes Mexican oregano.
