More Information

What is the difference between a dip and dressing?

Thickness or consistency is the biggest difference. A basic dip can be as simple as sour cream (or yogurt) and seasoning. For a dressing, this can be thinned by adding buttermilk. It's easier to thin a dip to make a salad dressing than to try to thicken a dressing to use as a dip.

What is the main ingredient in dips and dressings?

Dips are most commonly made with sour cream, mayonnaise, yogurt, cheese, and mashed beans or vegetables. Where as dressings are mostly made with oil & vinegars or buttermilk.

What are the most popular dips & dressings?

Onion dip & queso dip are popular for dips, while Ranch dressing is the most popular dressing. Our Seven Onion Dip is one of the best out there! It's similar to a classic French onion dip, but with more flavor. Try our Red Bell Ranch dressing mix for an easy homemade ranch recipe, or our Tex-Mex Queso & Dip for a spicy queso cheese dip. We also love our Elote dip mix, Mexican Street Corn Dip, and our vibrant Green Goddess Dip & Dressing mix.

How do you make salad dressing?

For a vinaigrette salad dressing: Add 1 cup olive oil, 1/2 cup vinegar (white wine, red wine, or balsamic), and 1-2 Tbsp. Italian Dressing seasoning blend, like our Italian Dressing Ready Mix. Mix in a sealed jar and shake vigorously to combine and emulsify salad dressing. Then toss in salad to taste!
