Ingredients
1 (28 oz.) can crushed tomatoes, drained
Cantanzaro Herbs
2 Tbsp. Cantanzaro Herbs
2 tsp. tomato paste
1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
1 lb. Italian sausage
1 lb. fresh pizza dough*
4 cups shredded fresh mozzarella cheese
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more to garnish
Fresh basil, to garnish
Directions
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. In a medium pot, combine crushed tomatoes, Cantanzaro Herbs, and tomato paste. Let simmer for 30 min. or until thick. Remove from heat. In a large cast-iron skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add Italian sausage and cook for 10 min. Transfer to a plate and drain excess oil from skillet. On a lightly floured surface, roll pizza dough into a circle a few inches wider than your skillet. Gently lower the dough into the skillet, making sure the crust carries all the way up the sides. Cover the bottom of the dough with mozzarella and Italian sausage. Cover with tomato sauce and sprinkle top with Parmesan. Bake pizza for 15 min. Remove from the oven and cover with foil, then bake for another 15 min. or until crust is cooked through. Garnish with fresh basil and additional Parmesan.
