Ingredients
For the meatloaf: 2 lbs ground beef (or pork + beef blend) 1 cup panko breadcrumbs ½ cup milk 1 egg
Chinese Five Spice
2 Tbsp. Chinese Five Spice
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 green onions, finely chopped
2 Tbsp. soy sauce
1 tsp. sesame oil
Salt and pepper to taste
For the glaze:
3 Tbsp. hoisin sauce
1 Tbsp. soy sauce
1 Tbsp. brown sugar
1 tsp. rice vinegar
½ tsp. sesame oil
Directions
Step 1
Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or use a loaf pan.
Step 2
Make the meatloaf mix. In a large bowl, soak panko in milk for 5 minutes. Add ground beef or pork, egg, Chinese Five Spice, garlic, green onion, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined and do not overwork.
Step 3
Shape and bake the meatloaf. Shape into a loaf on the baking sheet or press into a loaf pan. Bake for 30 minutes.
Step 4
Add glaze by first mixing all glaze ingredients. After 30 minutes of baking, brush glaze over top of meatloaf and return to oven for another 15–20 minutes until cooked through (internal temp 160°F).
Step 5
Let rest 5–10 minutes before slicing. Serve with scallion mashed cauliflower or potatoes, rice, or sesame-roasted broccoli.
