This recipe lends itself to exploration. Try Black Onyx Chocolate Sugar in place of Vanilla Bean Sugar or Chai Spices in place of Mulling Spices.

Ingredients

1/3 cup water


2 Tbsp. granulated sugar



10 oz. fresh or frozen cherries (washed, pitted and destemmed)

3/4 cup brandy

1 tsp. lemon or lime juice

Directions

In a small saucepan, bring water and sugar to a boil, stirring to dissolve sugar. Place Mulling Spices in a muslin bag and add bag to sugar water. Stir in brandy and cherries. Return mixture to a boil then lower heat and simmer for 5 min. Remove from heat and stir in lemon or lime juice. Transfer cherries, liquid and muslin bag with spices to a Mason jar. Let cool uncovered. Seal jar and refrigerate for 48 hours. After 48 hours, remove and discard muslin bag with spices.
