Grandma Johnston’s Coleslaw

This family recipe from Savory Spice founder Mike Johnston yields a classic, addictive cole slaw that makes the perfect summer side. It's the slaw he remembers his grandma making when the family would visit her in southern Illinois.

6 to 8 servings
Ingredients
6 Tbsp. mayonnaise ½ cups white sugar ¼ cups white vinegar 1 medium cabbage, finely shredded
Celery Seeds
1 tsp. Celery Seeds (optional)
Dutch Blue Poppy Seeds
1 tsp. Dutch Blue Poppy Seeds (optional)
Directions
Place the mayo, sugar and vinegar in a pint jar; seal and shake vigorously until combined. Working in a large bowl, pour dressing over shredded cabbage and toss to combine. Add seeds (if using) and toss again. Refrigerate for 30 min. to let the flavors develop. Serve cold or at room temperature.
