Pure Madagascar Vanilla Extract
1/2 tsp. Pure Madagascar Vanilla Extract, optional
½ lemon, juiced
Directions
Step 1
Heat a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Add berries and lemon juice and cook for 3-4 minutes.
Step 2
Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium and cook for 2-3 more minutes. Press the berries occasionally with a spatula so they release juices, but do not fully mash.
Step 3
Add spiced sugar and vanilla extract (optional) towards the end of the cooking time and stir well. Adjust the amount of lemon juice and spiced sugar to taste.
Step 4
Remove from the heat and either serve the mixed-berry compote immediately or allow it to cool and use it later.
Recipe Notes
Spoon over desserts like cheesecake, pound cake, and ice cream, as well as pancakes and waffles, or breakfast oats or yogurt.
Berry compote is endlessly adaptable. Try stirring in vanilla bean paste for warmth, a little citrus zest for brightness, or a few fresh mint leaves.
