Quick Cinnamon Rolls
Refrigerated Biscuits + Butter + Cinnamon Sugar
Let’s all be honest with ourselves: who has time to make cinnamon rolls from scratch? Here’s the sitch: you can get those little refrigerated biscuits (you know the ones, they’re in the tube). Get the “original flavor” ones, flatten them into ovals, smear them with softened butter, give a hearty sprinkle of Cinnamon Sugar, roll them up from the shorter end, and slice each one into four baby rolls! Bake for 12 to 15 min in a 400 degree oven, then make an icing with powdered sugar and a little milk, orange juice, or even some bourbon (for a real treat). If you want to add some extra oomph, add a light sprinkle of ground cardamom or chopped nuts to the filling.
Avocado Toast (Duh)
The next time someone associates avocado toast with millennials, just walk away from that person. Avocado toast is delicious and should be enjoyed by all generations. Make some avo toast from crusty sourdough bread and top it with crunchy-salty Brooklyn Everything Bagel Seasoning, spicy-tangy Crushed Aleppo Chiles, or the absolutely incredible herby-citrus Green Goddess Dip & Dressing Spice ‘n Easy. Oh, and don’t forget the squeeze of lime juice.
Baked Spiced Grapefruit
Grapefruit + Georgia Peach Spice + Yogurt + Mint
Growing up, I always sprinkled (okay, maybe poured) sugar atop my grapefruit halves. I later learned there were people/monsters in this crazy world that preferred their grapefruit with salt. If you are a salty person, it’s not too late to convert. Set your oven to a balmy 200 degrees, slice that grapefruit right down the equator so you can see the spoonable segments, and pop both halves (cut-side up) on a baking sheet. Sprinkle a lil’ Georgia Peach Spice on top and, if you have to, sprinkle a few granules of salt on top… but let’s not get carried away. Bake your grapefruit for 20 min. and they’ll come out sweet and caramelized. Top with yogurt and a sprig of mint for freshness and a pop of color.
Scrambled Eggs + Taco Seasoned Potatoes + Toppings
Does breakfast get cooler if you abbreviate it to “brekkie?” I’m not so sure, but what I am positive about is how killer tacos are, especially when they’re filled with scrambled eggs and roasted potatoes. Take them to the next level by toasting your corn or flour tortillas over your stove flame or in a really hot pan. Season small-diced potatoes with Taco Seasoning before roasting, then make your scrambled eggs right before you assemble your tacos—no one wants rubbery, cold eggs. Add a spoonful of salsa, some chopped chives, and a spoonful of sour cream to each taco. Oh, and maybe some cheese. The more toppings you have, the better the tacos will be (sorry, I don’t make the rules).
Easiest “Croissants” Ever
Puff Pastry + Lavender Vanilla Bean Sugar
Croissants are typically made from dough that’s had butter repeatedly folded in and rolled out to make those amazingly light layers. “Croissants” are made from freezer-aisle puff pastry. Thaw it according to package directions, cut each of the sheets into thirds, then into small triangles. Brush the pastry dough lightly with an egg wash (which is a fancy term for a well-beaten egg and a tiny splash of water) and sprinkle with Lavender Vanilla Bean Sugar. Roll the triangles starting at the wide end and ending at the point of the triangle, place on a baking sheet, and brush them again with the egg wash. Bake in an oven preheated to 400 degrees for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
Berry Granola Parfaits
Fresh Berries + Black Chia Seeds + Granola + Yogurt
You know what makes everyone happy? A margarita. But also, some fresh fruit paired with creamy yogurt. All I’m saying is that I don’t think a parfait has ever made anyone sad. The key to achieving parfait perfection? Layers (and a clear little cup or bowl so you can see said layers). First, you’re going to want to macerate some berries by tossing them in just enough sugar to lightly coat them. This is going to soften, sweeten, and draw out some delicious JUICE. Mix in a splash of lemon or lime juice and chia seeds, aka little omega-3 booster packs. Give it 30 min. or so and the berries should be ready to be layered with your favorite yogurt and granola. Congratulations, you’re basically a breakfast artist.
