East Coast Flavors

Close up on Everything Bagel

From crab cakes to buffalo wings, some quintessentially American foods and flavors come from the East Coast. We’ve taken some of these classics and created seasonings and recipes based on these distinctive American Pantry flavors. So pull up a stool, grab some napkins, and let’s dive in.

Coastal Bay Seasoning

Our take on the classic Maryland crab seasoning (you know, the one in the yellow and blue tin), is a nod to the Chesapeake Bay. While it might seem like this seasoning has been around forever, you may be surprised to learn that the seasoning was created in 1939 by a German immigrant. Still, it quickly became a regional must-have, good on everything from crab and shrimp to corn on the cob and potato chips. Our version of this classic includes celery salt, pepper, paprika, and the sweet spices (like cloves and mace) that make this seasoning immediately unidentifiable.

Brooklyn Everything Bagel Blend

In recent years, everything bagel seasoning has become wildly popular. Honestly, we totally understand why! The blend of salt, garlic and onion (we use toasted onion for a little sweetness), and nutty sesame and poppy creates a symphony of flavor. Obviously, the first use was bagels but you can now find everything bagel seasoning on, well, everything! It’s super versatile so get creative (and check out some recipe ideas at the end of this article.)

Buffalo Wing Dry Sauce

There are plenty of stories about exactly how buffalo wings were invented (we delved into the history of this beloved bar snack in our Behind the Seasoning: Buffalo article)…but just about everyone agrees that the eponymous name comes from their origins in Buffalo, New York. You might be thrown off by the fact that our version of this favorite is a dry seasoning. Savory Spice co-founder Mike Johnston explains the inspiration:

“The attraction for me is the ability to offer our customers a new application for a tried and true flavor profile. Having a dry form of Buffalo sauce opens up a bunch of opportunities in the kitchen. You can now add that one-of-a-kind, tangy, and zesty Buffalo flavor to snacks like popcorn, fries, or even garlic bread without worrying about making them soggy. What’s more, if you’re craving a Buffalo sauce for your wings and don’t have one on hand, you simply reach into your spice rack and make your own by mixing our Buffalo Wing Dry Sauce with equal parts oil and water.”

Recipes

We have a bunch of tasty recipes from Everything Bagel Chicken Tenders to Buffalo Style Mexican Street Corn. We can’t list them all here but we do have recipes featured on each seasoning product page, so we encourage you to explore!

Lowcountry Pickled Shrimp
We’ve taken the classic east coast flavor of our Coastal Bay Seasoning to the south with this pickled shrimp recipe. We love this refreshing and unique way to enjoy summer shrimp. Make it as an appetizer for a cheese and cracker plate or add it to a barbecue plate as a light and tangy side dish. We discovered that any leftovers are also delicious as a taco filling!

Easy Everything Bagels
Ok, we know these aren’t classic New York bagels but this super simple bagel(ish) recipe relies on baking powder instead of yeast so it’s a great intro recipe if you’re not super familiar with yeasted breads or if you have a random bagel craving and don’t want to wait for them to rise.

Everything Tomato and Cucumber Salad
Remember how we mentioned that our bagel blend is good on everything? This super simple, fresh salad is great for a quick lunch or a picnic side. All you have to do is a bit of chopping and toss together cucumber, onion, tomatoes, Brooklyn Everything Bagel Blend, vinegar, and a pinch of salt.

Buffalo Spiced Pretzel Pieces
You might have gotten these crunchy snacks from the grocery store but we assure you that making them yourself is worth it. It’s surprisingly easy to make your own snacks at home. These simple, crunchy homemade pretzel pieces make great game day fare. Or make a double batch, bundle them up, and give them as gifts. They keep for weeks in an airtight container.

Buffalo Grilled Chicken Salad
We all know that the celery and carrots that come with the wings are not exactly the highlight of a plate of wings. But when you turn your buffalo wings into grilled chicken and toss it all with buttermilk dressing, those veggie afterthoughts add the perfect crisp, fresh touch. Serve over greens, in a tortilla as a wrap, or between slices of your favorite bread for a sandwich.

...or use Buffalo Wing Dry Sauce to make a liquid buffalo sauce and grab a plate of wings. Sometimes, you just want the classics.
