Ashlee Redger BBQ BBQ Recipes Grilling
In August of 2015, Mike (Savory Spice founder and owner) embarked on a 43-day Chasing Barbecue journey to discover the flavors of 6 major barbecue regions in the United States. As Memorial Day approaches and days get warmer, we’re starting to crave those pit flavors that he detailed in his road journals. We thought it was time to revisit a few of our faves and bring you three special menus for your summer backyard BBQ get-togethers. Alabama & Georgia
The flavors of Alabama and Georgia pair up to create a plate that shares the spotlight equally between the meats and the sides. For your Southern BBQ meal, we recommend:
Get pit-style flavor straight off the grill. Serve with Woody’s Sweet & Tangy Barbecue Sauce which is spiked with one of our favorite Southern inspired seasonings, Georgia Peach Spice, for the perfect pairing with pork ribs.
If you have a smoker, this traditional main dish is amazingly flavorful and easy to pair with sides. It’s especially delicious with our small batch version of the region’s best known barbecue sauce, Alabama White.
It’s easy to eat your greens with this slow cooked recipe with ham seasoned with our Wash Park All-Purpose Seasoning blend.
These crispy treats add a little spice to the sweet smokiness of any great barbecue plate.
Drawing inspiration from “The Peach State” means delicious summer desserts like this tasty dessert featuring our Georgia Peach Spice.
North & South Carolina
The Carolinas are famous for their barbecue pork…especially the whole hog tradition. If you prefer not to cook a whole pig at a time though, great barbecue is still totally possible! Here are a few recipes to serve it up, Carolina-style:
Use 'Cue Glue, Carolina High Country BBQ Rub, and a pork shoulder for this star of the BBQ plate. Serve doused with either our Southern Gold or Hot Pepper Vinegar Barbecue Sauce to make the meal even more traditional.
Inspired by North Carolina red slaw, this recipe is made with ketchup instead of mayo for the dressing base. We flavor ours with Table Mt. All-Purpose Seasoning, Celery Seeds, Celery Salt, and Cajun Cayenne Hot Sauce. It tastes a bit like a Bloody Mary!
These are sure to cause lots of “oohs and aahs.” Serve with a dish of Honey Butter for a sweet and savory crispy bite.
Every plate needs vegetables, in this case, cooked with bacon! These are such a classic, how can you not serve them?
These are so good, we highly recommend making both for dessert, cause two pies are always better than one.
A city that sits right on state borders has found its own identity in its signature barbecue dishes. KC BBQ almost always features a sweet and deeply flavored dark barbecue sauce like our KC-inspired Midwestern Sweet. Make a gallon of sweet tea to serve with these regional favorites:
The magical outcome of a well-rubbed and smoked brisket, these are a true BBQ treat. To get the best bark on the brisket, slather on our ‘Cue Glue before adding your favorite BBQ rub. Make sure to let this one rest for super tender meat.
This sweet spin on a classic BBQ side brings has the flavor of apple pie filling thanks to the addition of Spiced Vanilla Bean Sugar.
A crowd-favorite at any BBQ joint, you can make your own with the 3-2-1 cooking method using the smoker, oven, and grill. Don’t have a smoker? Slow Cooker Smoky Chipotle Pulled Pork is a set-it-and-forget recipe seasoned with Chipotle Chiles and root beer for a built-in sauce.
Add bright acidity to the rich meats of KC ‘cue and give a splash of beautiful red color to make your barbecue even more appealing (if that’s even possible).
These three menus are just the tip of the iceberg. Visit our Chasing BBQ page for more regional recipes and spices, as well as tips from pit masters. Excited about barbecue season? Keep your eye out for some super exciting news about Savory sauces this summer!
