Baking

Ginger is native to Southeast Asia and is now also cultivated in Africa, Australia and Jamaica. Ginger was introduced to Europe and the Middle East from the Orient in a dried form, which explains why many dishes call for dried ginger rather than fresh. Ginger is a rhizome (root) and grows underground as a thick, tuberous stem bearing both roots and shoots.

At the school of medicine in Salermo, Italy doctors decided that everyone should eat ginger regularly in order to love and be loved like they were young!

We grind ginger weekly in small batches to ensure freshness. Ginger has a light, peppery, lemon aroma and a hot, spicy, sweet flavor. Ginger is a natural in baked goods but don’t forget it when cooking savory foods such as sauces, vegetables, veal, venison or pork.

Spiced Cookies: Add to a basic sugar cookie recipe for sweet-warm flavor.

Ginger Graham Crust: Add 1 tsp. to any graham cracker crust recipe for a warm-citrus note.

What is Organically Sourced?

Products with the "Organically Sourced" designation have been grown and cleaned organically. Once these products are received by our warehouse in Denver and opened to be repackaged into Savory Spice jars, they no longer qualify as organically certified, but the methods for producing them are in line with organic standards. Products that are Organically Sourced will include "ORG-S" on the front of the label.

This spice is pungent, warm, and peppery with light, lemony notes and pairs well with cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, pepper, and paprika.

Add to baked goods or savory dishes. Try in Asian dishes, sauces and marinades.

For 3-4 T of mix: Blend 1 T ground ginger, allspice, and cinnamon with 1 1/2 t ground nutmeg, 1/2 t cloves, and dash of pepper (optional)
